Can you be bad at being a sociopath?

Published by jpruss under pschology Edit This

Though-out my life I have met only a few people who seem to have amazing social skills. These people seem to have confidence flowing out out of their ears. They are very charismatic and can usually convince anyone to do anything simply by dropping “helpfull” suggestions.

I have always admired these people; and secretly wished I could be more like them. Not because I want to be more popular, but because I imagine how much easier life must be to deal with people. Yet they always come off sincere and honest, and any attempts I make to mimic it..well let just say it doesn’t turn out well. It sounds “fake”

Just imagine for a minute that you are some sort of ’super intelligent genius’ with super charisma. From your point of view people and society must seem like little play things for your amusement right?

I starting thinking about all this watching an episode of Desperate Housewives. The newest character Eddies husband. (what’s his name?). Anyway he seems to treat everyone like little playthings, carefully dropping little hints and suggestions, all in a master plan to control everyone without them even being aware of it!

Is this pschopathic behavior? I was talking to my wife about this; I don’t think it is “illegal” to be psychopath. The problem is the pschopath (or sociopath) will likely preform criminal behaviour (usually some form of sexual or agressive impulses). These are the things that get the pchopath in trouble (if they can get got)

But what if these are skills are used in a postive way; to help people lead more happy productive lives? Is this possible; or if given the choice to mess with people pschologically we will always do so with ‘evil’ tendancies?
